The Lesson

I am the artist, I am the muse

My mirror is a kaleidoscope

I am my yellows, I am my blues

There’s day I feel I’ve lost all hope

But these words I write flow with ease

And my feelings are a downpour

My thoughts inside are begging please

“Don’t let us be what you ignore”

I am what poetry teaches

“Recovery was meant for you”

Fight off those cognitive leeches

And let these lines reveal what’s true

These stanzas hold my renaissance

I am a new painting each day

My pen becomes my main response

And scribbles all my pain away
