Learning to Dream

Society has many expectations

Leaving in me lasting implications

How I always failed in propriety

So I have yet to scape anxiety

I have never been in the norm

Nor ever been known to conform

Thus I have been left with none

None other than my own pen

To hold it lest I too come undone

For it has freed this soul of mine

Having given lost words in mind

Capturing feelings I thought decimated

Redeeming emotions once eviscerated

Saving the tears that were evaporated

Or even more, give back life assimilated

To answer the personal question

To give up poetry’s soulful mean

I must first lead with my confession

That poetry has given back a dream

A dream that not I alone could see

That there is beauty inside life

And that life is the poetry in me
