Land of the Great

“America the great” or that's how they want it to seem

A country that glorifies war but if they see a black person they scream

Pleading only mercy in a war they created

Why is that innocent people were abused and then having brown skin makes them hated

You see the hate in the media all the time

Hands only shown when a brown person does the crime

Criminalizing black victims but victimizing white criminals

Pleading ‘insanity’ for those with fair skin only to make their sentence minimal

On the other hand you see black males getting killed called thugs

When asked why anything else matters the journalist just shrugs

And when the police officer is questioned they just say, “He did drugs.”

But I just want to ask America, “Where is the love?”

I live in America, so don't get me wrong

I just wish what we praised was a different song

Not glaring rockets or bombs bursting in the air

But a song where everyone is given a chance at life that is fair

I believe the change starts there, where we stop admiring violence

And for the many other problems we speak up and break the silence

In my opinion, that is the only way we will be able to enforce change

But only change for the better, so that America’s people are no longer to blame
