Ladder to Success

In my mind I stand here,
a symbol of success, suppressed in silence
that sits in a place surrounded by violence

In the eyes of Society
most likely, I will be undeniably
Locked away in a maximum security facility
Since I'm a minority

I want to break free of the statistics
released from the stereotypical characteristics
of a young black teen
I want to create my own regime
Like Martin King, I have a dream
Not that people will sing,
One where people scream my name louder than the rest
As I stand in first place, fist clinched and high in the air
as a symbol for success
