Knotted Threads

Location

A curtain surrounds me,

a curtain like Grandma's quilts;

the outer layer so pretty,

showing a completed picture.

A picture of confidence-

of having it all together-

The strong one- the leader-

the nice one-

carried by expectations.

But behind the curtain-

my emotions get tangled up-

sometimes I yell in my head-

or I am scared of other's opinions.

Or i worry about my future.

I am needy- I am uncertain-

I am overwhelmed.

But this curtain-

picture perfect on the outside-

knotted threads on the inside-

stays in place with fear.

Fear of my true self being accepted.

So I remain two-

one for others-

 one for me.
