Knock it Down

Society like liquor

sip once, twice:

vice.

Rules,

wine and whiskey, blood and water,

What do you mean alcohol is taken lightly?

Don’t lie to me;

vodka and gin is strong, enforcing.

Quite frankly,

it’s not just alcohol.

And to wonder what it would be like

to taste rosé

no, not pure at all

Sickly sweet is the construct that holds play to our imaginings;

honey, grapefruit, floral scents

built only on precedent.

I will taste it as we all do

But I shall not succumb.

Then soft I sigh,

For in truth, I am already a drunkard.
