If I could have just one job

I would be a damn poet and

I'd juxtapose the public school system and standardized tests

with a school engulfed in art facilities and big music rooms.

Instead of children growing up in this world 

where there's only one kind of smart,

I would scream metaphors from the tops of buildings

down to all the adults who told me if I pursued poetry I'd end up broke

"Maybe broke is where it's at!"

I would yell bombastically

There is nothing more beautiful than being a broken person

with broken pockets and nothing more to live for

than life itself.

If I could have just one job
