Just Lucky, I Guess
Why do you love me?
Sometimes I wonder
How such a magnificent creature like you
Could love someone as unpleasant as me.
In the morning,
I am as cranky as can be.
You are as good-looking as the night before
My hair is a mess. There is the morning breath that unfailingly kicks in.
In the afternoon,
You are fresh and ready to go. Just yourself, nothing more
I pile on blush over my uneven skin and lipstick over my crooked grin.
In the evening,
I burrow my unpleasantly cold feet between yours. How warm you are.
Suddenly, you look into my eyes.
You whisper in my ear “When did I get so lucky?”
I roll my eyes
“You just are.”
My hair is still a mess.
