Journey

If I could give my younger self a message

I would say keep your head up you will go far.

You will accomplish things that people think

are beyond little black girls.

Wipe your tears do not cry

when the time comes you will thrive.

Built up in your accomplishments.

I would express all the things I have learned

don't let that little boy take your joy.

He isn't for you he will never learn

how to love someone who could be right for him.

He is too young he would see in the end.

How he needs you a person so solid

and how he rejected you for someone who’s standards we way below.

Below the point of greatest that you own.

Yes, that little boy will shatter your heart

you will sit and look at the pieces that have fallen apart.

And as you gather those pieces you built yourself back whole

promising yourself that nobody would ever take such a toll.

On your life again cause it was yours and not his

no more being broken cause this is where it ends.

When it ends it gets better and you will move on

becoming student body president

in magazines and newspapers.

Whose face is that on the tv?

Girl, that is yours,

you see all the different possibilities

that's waiting at your door.

So, let me get to the point to tell you what I really mean.

you'll have obstacles to overcome to find your beliefs,

to get where you need to be.

Baby girl, follow your dreams

and one day you will see.

How everything worked out so perfectly

and now you’re here looking back on your life.

You expressed your love for media

and your passion for writing on the side.

So, baby girl, again you will thrive.

And promise me you will never let that passion

leave your eyes.If I could give my younger self a message
