Joey

I see a river levee with bridges on both sides

it’s early the air is wet, my clothes dampened by it.

People gathered and noise all around.

I’m running to you, your motionless.

She grabs me, pulls me close and says, “he’s gone.”

 I beg to know why.

The edges of the crisp white sheet gently sway in the breeze

as he kneels over and takes your picture.

I’m dragged away to help put together the pieces.

Your life ended there but mine had just begun.
