It's Not Only A Word

Before I leave this Earth

I wanna leave a mark on this turf

When I say turf I mean to leave a mark on a certain skill set

Being successful

And when I say successful it means not leaving my kids in debt

I wanna do all kinds of things...

Ball out, get lit, go on shopping sprees until clothes in my closet no longer fit

Being successful is what makes me wake up for school and not accept getting C's or D's

My drive to be successful is what makes me...

Me

Me not being successful just doesn't feel right

Like a boxer in a ring who just won't fight

While we're on the topic I've been fighting my whole life

From heartbreaks to mistakes to writing poems for scholarships until my hands start to shake

I know everybody wants to make their best effort at being great

But how I see it if you dont leave a mark you wont

Being successful would make my parents proud

First time I experienced it was graduating and hearing everyone shout real loud

But I knew I needed more

To be that person to open any door

I'm gonna strive to be successful and that's always

But I'm just gonna keep on trying until my face lands a spot in a history page
