Isolation Vs. Suffocation

They were singing in the pagoda

A family of  classe supérieure

But he was the odd duckling out

not ugly, just different

He still belonged to them though

And I didn’t want to take that from him

He played us his new song

smiling, with such gumption and

the rest of the elite group shrugged in whateverness

and so I did too

ignoring the sadness and disappointment in his eyes

He said that my performance was really good

with those puppy eyes

And I just said thanks and walked away with myself

He played us his new song

smiling, with such gumption and

the rest of the elite group shrugged in whateverness

and so I did too

ignoring the sadness and disappointment in his eyes

He sat next to me when we sang

and laughed when I laughed

Our eyes would meet and I would look down,  take out my phone

And text no one in reply with a smile on my face

He played us his new song

smiling, with such gumption and

the rest of the elite group shrugged in whateverness

and so I did too

ignoring the sadness and disappointment in his eyes

I hadn’t smoked then when he’d asked

God I wish he’d been my first experience with it though

But back then it was just another way to fit in

And I didn’t do that then and I don’t do that now

He played us his new song

smiling, with such gumption and

the rest of the elite group shrugged in whateverness

and so I did too

ignoring the sadness and disappointment in his eyes

They had welcomed me with synthetic open arms

When mine were closed, shackled

Already decided that they were all the same

So they did become the same
