Invisible Performer

Not everyone sees me

Some may not even now that I am there

Not everyone knows who I am

Some may not even know that I exist

I hide on stage, back

I am a name on paper,

not a name in lights.

So why did I say yes?

Spur of the moment,

fate,

a leap of faith,

call it what you will.

I did it.

Hours, hours, hours,

Lines, lines, lines,

I had no time.

But I did it. I did.

I thought the lights would blind me;

I thought the fear would settle on my heart;

I thought I would freeze, forget.

But I didn’t.

An experience I could never forget,

the confidence I gained

because I did it.

I’m no actor,

but I did it.
