It's a silly thing, to rely on a cause to inspire
Cuz any organization can ignite a fire,
just as easily as they could put it out.
And when you douse that sensation
with a bucket full of disappointment and doubt
you may feel desolate and lost, without it.
The most inflammable fires aren't lit
by virality or sound bits,
but from within you.
The most inflammable fires are lit
by the individuals who burn
with an intensity and a need to be heard;
the ones whose voices are screaming
before they even say a word.
What inspires me?
The man who sleeps on the street,
where you refuse even to place your feet;
where you spit, walk, hurry, and
pretend he isn't there, ignore his calls for help,
step over him while he sleeps and
throw him judgmental glares.
When he wakes up each morning,
and still offers the world a smile.
He inspires me.
The gay couple on the bus,
that are lovers lost in the eyes
of one another.
Holding hands proudly despite the whispers,
and the struggles through adversity
Facing entire populations who won't appreciate diversity.
Finding love within another, and that is all that matters.
They inspire me.
Every interaction is an opportunity
to affect someone else's eternity.
And that's the most inspiring fire that I can light beneath me,
The most unfaltering passion that I can possibly set free.
Because love is still out there, all around us, and it can be shared
in each moment of this existence.
And that. That is inspiring.
