inside the golden gates

The past is foreign to me

Just as much as the present.

Though I long for marvels of the past

Present is where I am heading

For there is nowhere else for me to go.

You call at me from the past

Asking me to abandon all forward progress

And I would do it

I would do anything for you

But I cannot anymore.

I am trapped

And I cannot escape.

Give me freedom.

Give me love.

Give me hope.

You left me for so long

That I had forgotten what it was like

To love with such a capacity.

Though I wish I could let you

Out of my mind,

I long to hold you

Because I do not want to lose

Happy memories

of you

and I

in the past.

I need you

to save me

from myself.
