The Immovable Mask

Location

Do you know what its like; having to wear a mask that life has given you? Simply because you are too scared to show your real face. Every time you do show your face, you only leave yourself vulnerable to the world. When that happens, the mask becomes much more than just a mask; it becomes a castle for you.

Do you know what its like; to not be yourself, when you know being yourself just isn't enough to please people. So you put on mask just to be able to make friends. But you know they are only friends, because you wear the mask. They don't even know the real you.

Do you know what its like; to be hurt because you took your mask off? Like somehow, the world just finds the best ways to take it off, and then hurt you. Whether its physical, mental or verbal? So sometimes you have to hide away from life, just to feel safe.

Well, I know what's it's like. When you have depression, life just hands you a mask. It fits perfectly to your face, and its outer appearance changes on your mood. It can even change in the matter of minutes. But you don't allow people to see the change, and its not a matter of the masks appearance. Its how you want people to perceive the mask.

So, yes I know what it's like to have a mask. Simply because I've been wearing as long as I remember. I can't seem to take it off, because I don't know what my face looks like underneath. So, I'm not scared of how people will receive my real face, I'm scared of what I'll see.
