I'm Pretty Well

Though I smile each time you see me
At a glance you say my eyes glisten
I feel alone while thousands swarm around me
The tears filling the corners of my eyes plead for you to listen

I swore they were all accidents
Those marks upon my skin
I doubted you would ever understand my hints
Until my lies began to wear thin

A lifetime's collection of "get over it"s
Each nightmare fills my body with anguish
The guilt of you and your threats and angry fits
Fool me to believe I am the one to punish

But ask me and I'll still claim "I'm pretty well!"
All so the world doesn't see I'm living my own little Hell.

I thought one day these things would change
But I've fallen deeper in an environment so new
Seems I'm  placed perfectly in the target range
If gentle hands are out there, show me the few

The battle to live seems to last forever
I live a life so desperate for love
I am a warrior with a winning endeavor
Breathing deep only to stand strong and rise above

There will always be a different story behind that closed door
I try so hard to hold back the tears
A life so torn hides something so much more
And every memory replays from all these years

But ask me and I'll still claim "I'm pretty well!"
All so the world doesn't see I'm living my own little Hell.

Though I smile each time you see me
At a glance you say my eyes glisten
I feel alone while thousands swarm around me
The tears filling the corners of my eyes plead for you to listen

I swore they were all accidents
