Alien, strange

I know there's something wrong with me

Because I say things like "post-adolescent idealistic phase"  and my words seldom feature slang

Because I am amused by the world of literature

Because I could listen to alternative rock all day and night if given the choice

Because I strive to defy the thoughts others have about me 

When they see that I happen possess an abundance of melanin 

I would hope by now, after all the time that has passed and all the achievements have been made

That it would no longer be significant

But my hopes are inconsequential among the trillions
