I Write to be Heard

I Write to be Heard

By Rebecca Lewis

I open my mouth, but no words come out

I scream at the sky, but no one hears

We live in a world where everyone speaks

Louder, louder, louder

Drowning out the world with their own voice

Like blasting loud music to forget or ignore

But I pick up a pen

And the world is suddenly mine

The words, my words, flow out on the page

My thoughts

My feelings

Everything I had said that the world ignored

When I write, I convey images and truths

Truths about myself, others, the world

When I write, I write the truth

The truth that the world ignores

I write for the truth

I write to be heard.
