I, Too, Paint America

Mon, 02/17/2014 - 22:57 -- Rshah14

I, too, paint America.

Red, Yellow, Green, White, Saffron.

Colors

on the vast canvas they call “America.”

I paint with the color of my skin,

with the distinct hue of my culture,

and the pigment of my imagination.

And all the colors

sparkle.

It began at age four,

The fatigue from the 23-hour trip

turned purple, blue, teal,

Green.

The next day, week, year I splattered orange –

not orange – saffron.

I use more colors now: red for my culture; blue for my country;

yellow, pink, purple. Black.

But the green and the saffron

never fade, or disappear.

They are never

forgotten –

I, too, create  America.
