I Told You So

I graduated!

Time to start teaching-

This will be exciting

and students I'll be reaching

It was 1998 and I was young and energetic

I walked into this new school hopeful,

but soon things became hectic

As I watched the news,

the reality sunk in.

13 people murdered

at the high shcool they were in.

The images were so sad

I couldn't believe my eyes

Two boys so lost

How strongly they despised.

Something happened that day besides all the deaths

Evil took over

Now we hold our breath.

In 2012 the Devil appeared

He entered that Elementary School

And fed off of their fear.

20 innocent children were taken from the world that day

Six brave teachers protecting them and leading the way

This wasn't a freak accident

It's happening year after year

Mothers and fathers shedding more tears

The grade level doesn't matter as we learned with Virginia Tech

We're all sitting ducks-

Who knows where it will happen next

What drives them to do it?

How can they have so much hate?

If we don't find a solution

More will end up at Heaven's Gate

I see them in the halls, outside and in my class

I know they're struggling

Thier eyes are like glass

We need to do more to help them

I've said it before

I can see the trouble brewing

Don't just send him out the door!

He puts up a front

like everything's fine-

But I still see the hurt and pain coursing through his mind.

My job is to teach and protect them each day

Then the bell rings

and I send them on their way

I pray it won't happen to us

Please God don't let it be so

And I hope I never have to say..
