I Remember
Location
I remember the city I used to call home,
to the places I used to go, linked with people I used to know.
I remember how nothing was ever guaranteed twice in a day.
I remember gunshots fired and friends being blasted,
so in caskets they were carried away.
Drugs injected in veins, so empty bags and needles line the gutters of the streets.
So, the ones you used to know are now ones you don't wanna meet.
Crooked cops that lie about what they see when they arrive on the scene.
Also, makes for an interesting story telling style to extend from me.
But through all my hardship along with adversity,
there are memories and discoveries of positivity.
I remember through tear filled eyes, my voice spoke a new way to cry.
I remember the first time I started to sing again and again,
now music and poetry are my long time extended friends.
I remember girls of yesterday, where ghetto love past.
Even if the affair was short lived, the stories developed were never fast.
I remember being taught that true strength comes from within,
to always do right, in someone's eyes you are gonna sin.
I think about memories of what happened and used to be,
with most times a grin.
Because of friendships built and a dream born
about to begin.
