I Once Was Young

I once was young

I once believed

That my aspirations- though obstacles replete

Could be achieved

I once was young

I once had hope

That my future was bright

And my path would be an upward slope

I once was young

I once was led by my ardor

Whenever life pushed hard

 I pushed back harder

I once was young

I once had ideals

I once had a pep in my strut

Like a model in high heels

But I aged

And got spurned and spurned

And when I sought help

I got burned

So now I'm jaded

And my ardor tempered

My hopes faded

My ideals surrendered
