I love you they say

I love you they say with a sand paper smile

Guess I love you’s can’t stretch out more than a mile

I love you they say with a glint in their eye

but I love you’s aren’t meant to make us both cry

I love you they say with a long warm embrace

but even your arms can’t hide fear on my face

I love you you said when you walked out the door

I guess this means there won’t be any more

I love you you said wiping tears from my lips

with your lips on my lips and your hands on my hips

I love you you said, and there’s no reason to cry

I wish I knew then that was our final goodbye
