But I Love You, Amor

When I first laid eyes on your goregous caramel skin, round brown eyes, and cheeky smile

I nearly fainted

And so did my parents

I could not keep this love a secret

I would not have it

Our colors did not define anything

Our souls did

And still do

Let them say cruel things and fill themselves to the brim with hateful thoughts

It will not change my feelings for you

I could not hold back

My ivory skin does not set my love standards

Or any standards for that matter

So let them be judgemental

For I do not have the ability to judge upon simple shades of brown

Love is love, skin is skin.

Look deeper within.
