It didn't happen, the accident's causation,
the hit and run no one reports, no one slows to stop or
go out of their way to help the cause of animals struck,
deer and racoon and fox and squirrel
haven't a chance in front of a truck
could never road rage but became road kill
running a race just to reach the other side
sticking their necks out just to survive
why oh why would we stop for one like us
but not give a care for nonhuman animals?
Are we that biased, prejudiced against life
or are we desensitized, rushed for time, in strife?
All excuses. Rebuke us. Get a new belief
that animals have rights; all creatures have grief.
