I Got Nothing

When I came to school,

I didn’t ask you for anything,

I was bright-eyed and naïve.

When I couldn’t afford school,

I didn’t ask you for anything,

I decided to graduate in three years.

When I still couldn’t afford school,

I didn’t ask you for anything,

I worked three jobs.

When I lost people I love,

I tried not to ask you for anything,

I tried to soldier on.

When I started crying in lecture,

I didn’t ask you for anything,

But I couldn’t go anymore.

When I was failing,

I asked you for help,

And you ignored me.

When I was told I wouldn’t graduate yet,

I asked you for help,

And you wouldn’t listen.

When you told me I still owed you money,

I asked you for help,

And I got nothing.
