I Do Pledge, with Eyes, Heart, and Soul

Thu, 04/17/2014 - 00:57 -- NGFink

Dawning of another day, crowded busy streets.

People blindly rushing, marching to different beats.

Dirty sidewalks, graffiti, crime, fear, and poverty.

Faces turn, eyes look away; hiding from harsh reality.

What has happened to this country?

The foundation on which it was built?

Where did it go wrong; just when did it begin to tilt?

The wars which have been fought, at home and so far away.

The lives' and souls that were lost,  a debt we can ne'er repay.

Our flag that waves for freedom, her glory of red, white, and blue.

A symbol to all who sees her; faith she does renew.

The stars and stripes tug at your heart for all she has been through.

Hats come off, tears come to eye as we pledge always to be true.

Those same hearts quickly shut down after she passes by.

Leaving people like me to wonder and ask the question why.

I want to make a difference; I know I don't stand alone.

I won't stand on the sideline only to bemoan,

The condition of this country that will always be my home.

This pride will always live in me, no matter where I roam.

The ticking of the clock, signals time is quickly fleeting.

To God, family, and country I pledge as long as my heart is beating.
