I Can't Tell You The Truth
I can’t tell you what it is like
To look in the mirror and only wonder
To wonder about Ike
A poor boy in a third world under
To question why he isn’t the same
To ask myself what I can do to help
You look me in the face and say he feels pain
Instead of a pedestal, you put him on a shelf
I wish to tell you that I feel shame
That my life not be as bad, but I still feel pain
You refuse to hear my silent pleas and cries all the sameBut what if I could tell you I would do it all again?
I would do it for Ike, Marquis, Asia, and Ebony
I would trade their pain for my pain so they could know laughter
I wish for them to know my parents, my friends, my cat Penny
They would be fed and loved and then soon after
You can look them in the eyes and ignore them too
Ignore them like you ignore me,
Because obviously your job isn’t important enough to you
And you are oblivious to what so many can see
We need help
But you need it more
We understand the phrase “Self-help”
We want to teach you, but you may ignore
I stand here before you
I can’t tell you what it is like
To stand here way overdue
To wonder about Ike
