I Can't Say

I tried to write a poem

One in which the passion would seep from my fingertops, uttering every word I never could

Just to be able to whisper the way my heart dances, skips, and occasionally,

Stops to look at you and say

"He's wonderful"

I tried to write a poem

But it never worked out

I stumbled further down the rabbit hole,

Sinking deeper

Into a torrent of rising stars and falling skies

Greeting each day with your voice

Each and every molecule and atom apart of my being

Clings to you,

Yearns to bond with you

Thus everyday becomes a struggle,

Lacking the warmth of being beside you, pulling close

To wrap my tongue around all the words in the English language

Just to say something worthwhile

I tried to write you a poem

I tried

To say something worthwhile

Yet all the words lost meaning when I saw you

They failed to run, walk, even crawl from my lips to yours

And yet here you are

Leaving me breathless

Asking for more more more

Of your care

Love

A sighing caress on my forehead

I have sewn myself to your hand

Because I am absolutely,

in love.

I tried to write you a poem today

Even now I'm unsure the movement in my heart's beat was heard.
