I am... poetry slam

I was a child with dreams.
I was, in my mind, one of the greatest athletes in history.
I was a child building forts with my cousins.
I was, for a time, innocent.
I was a child who lost his family.
I was, by all accounts, broken entirely.
I was a scared child, not knowing what was safe anymore.

I am a man with plans.
I am, in these plans, a tremendous tool of progress.
I am a man designing piles of trash.
I am, truth be told, trying my best.
I am a man pushing forward with life.
I am, at most, a speck in the universe.
I am still a scared child, trying to figure everything out.

Hoping, with all my being, that I can understand this tragic, wonderful chance of something more.
