I AM... Part of a Generation

I AM part of a generation, the result of carelessness

I WONDER if the damage can be undone; if we can find our heritage

I HEAR tales of a time of change; times long gone

I SEE a world that has lost its way; revolutions gone wrong

I WANT our nation to remember---remember the great men

I AM part of a generation that will have to rise again

I PRETEND that we are stable; just like they did before

I FEEL that we are entering another civil war

I TOUCH the flag with stars and stripes, a reminder of ancient scars

I WORRY there'll be new ones, I worry they'll be ours

I CRY over Kennedy and King, over the potential that was killed

I AM part of a generation determined to remain unfulfilled

I UNDERSTAND the impacts history books don't teach

I SAY we listen closer to the speakers and their speech

I DREAM of unification, a country born once more

I TRY to spread awareness, so peace can be restored

I HOPE we find the strength inside to lift these heavy boulders

I AM part of a generation with America on our shoulders
