I Am Me

I Am Me

I am not my test scores

I am not  my GPA

And I am not my mother’s expectation

I am a writer

I am a girl full of dreams

And I am a soul searching to be free

Society and it standards Will not lock me in a cage

For my overwhelming rage

Will set me free

I am not Daddy’s little girl

I am not “one of the black girls”

And I am not just another student

I am a child at heart

I am a vase full of passion

And I am a mind full of powerful thoughts

Society and it standards Will not lock me in a cage

For my overwhelming rage

Will set me free

I am me
