I Am Human.

Location

Blinded to the loose sexist and racist slurs of others
As a child, how could one understand?
To be pushed aside with light insults
for no reason,
for no reason at all?

Blinded to the guilibility of humans
as I side with whomever seems right
without a thought of my own.
As a child how would I know
what's right,
and what's wrong?

Blinded to the mockery towards feminists
as a child I thought all along,
wasn't the mother the hero
who brought together the family
with love and care?

Blinded to the flaws of the society,
As a child, I thought it was the norm.
To have insults thrown at you
on a daily basis.
But now how can I say,
"Nothing is wrong?"

As I am now,
I realized the hateful words
of others:
"Go back to where you belong!"
What happened to the promised
life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness?

As I am now,
I am slandered by terms
considered vulgar.
Why can't people be left
as they want to be?
Why can people not be labeled
with things they aren't?

As I am now,
I have grown stronger,
I have chosen to ignore
all those opinions.
Why can't I use what brings me down
to fight for others?

As I am now,
I believe in what I want to believe.
For the women of the world,
for the LGBTQ community,
why can't people accept
each other?

As I am now,
without labels placed upon me,
I am human.
And I am proud to say,
"So is everyone else."
Isn't that all that matters?
