I Am... A Dime of Destiny
Cheap dollar store diamonds
And soap washed hands
While my gold chains lie in the bathroom window sill
A songstress when the birds are chirping
Representing the pain and suffering of my people on bloodstained shirts
Fists up behind Tumblr walls and chubby appreciation
Toothbrushes on the sneakers, spray bottles for the hair
Naturalism has become a fad, but I'm one with nature-- one with Yahweh
Sabbaths are hard to keep.
Pass me over when the gates come, for there is blood on my door post.
My smile hides bullying,
And shyness appears when the best parts of me are exposed
I couldn't back in the day, but now you want me to sing at your wedding
I was always fat, and I'd love to do the singing at your funeral.
Toothbrushes on the sneakers, spray bottles for the hair
Lipstick on my Sunday best shirts; it just wasn't for me
Afro combs in the middle of bread loaves
Staring like they've never seen black before
Back to black recovering from standardized tests that they give us blindfolded
Climbing up the mountains out of a ditch they dug for the celebration of my birth
certificate,
I've recovered tremendously from being surrounded by paper fans,
and the camera's hung on Barbie doll necks
I represent poetry delivered by the children of Jacob
I represent the definition of a lost tribe
I represent a battle that I plan to win
They tried to put coconut oil on the floor, but it just made Destiny's hair shine.
