I am Coco Skinned

I am coco skinned.

Blackberry eyes, pink lipped lies;

a button nose and a touch of spearmint.

But, my mother is winter toned.

Leafy piles on top of cherry smiles;

a perfect laugh and a scent that smells like home.

And it’s amazing how, in fact, as opposites we attract…

I am chapter books and Family Guy.

Full of brains, don’t care about fame;

and if I get below a “B” I’m gonna cry.

But, my best friend is magazines and Kim K.

Cheesy Rom-Com’s and a sun-kissed mom;

and doesn’t look away from her phone, EVER, in a day.

And it’s weird, you know, that we are considered one life; one soul.

I am big chested and thick.

Mac and cheese, corn bread and greens;

and I am the best Kool-Aid maker like Usain is the best at being quick.

But, my brother is twiggy and lean.

More leaves and even more lies; if the scale is above 100, he’ll die.

When I tell him he’s getting buffer, he says that I’m mean.

“But, I love you…” I say.

“I know.” He states.

But does he know that I love him despite his weight?

I am torn and intrigued.

Do the people I love understand, that no matter where I am

I will love them despite what the world believes?

And it’s funny, you see, that the world believes in everything but what makes me.
