I Am Black and Beautiful

I Am Black and BeautifulI am courageous and strong!I may not have the best hair, Or be the smartest of my peersBut,I AM beautifully flawed. The shade of my skinMy growing intelligence within, An eager passion to be successful I am courageous and strong! I face adversity with a welcoming handI am willing to learn, willing to failI am defined by real life experiences Hurt, joy, ache, and tearsAll prepared me to be courageous and strong! The curve of my hips, my luscious full pink lipsDoes not classify me in any wayMy aptitude, my compassion, and empathetic spirit,Molds me into the person that I am todayI am courageous and strong! Striving to make my family proudProving to the world that black woman can be whatever they want to beI refuse to be another statisticBelieving in myself, even when all hope is vanishedBecause I am courageous and strong I am blossoming like a pink roseLoving the dark skin that I am inLoving the curl pattern in my thick, black hairI am black, beautiful, courageous, and strong I wonder where life is going to take me,I hear whispers of hate,I see people smiling in my face,I am a warrior I am a fighterI am a believerI am, courageous and strong!
