I AM FROM
I am from Winnie the Pooh wallpaper, and stucco ceilings,
From two homes, the constant back and forth.
I am from the town home with the garden, and the water stain on the ceiling,
From the neighbor with the dog I wished was mine.
I am from choosing between electricity or heat,
From listening to my mother’s cries from the bottom step.
I am from a home of culture and shadow pictures,
From a marriage unified in the living room.
I am from a warrior who spoke only “sweet angel”,
From a puppeteer with eyes the color of bluebells.
I am from loss, and gain,
From ends, and new beginnings.
I am from unconditional love,
With no exceptions.
