I am

 “Where I’m From”Poem

Sagal Jama

I am from persian rugs from incense and bright scarves.

I am from loud laughing,roast sessions,spicy food

I am from coconut oil and turmeric face masks

I am from pizza nights and birthmarks, from fatuma and mohamed and the jama’s

I am from the constant cleaning and faint smell of incense.

From “family first” and “coming together can mend a crack in the sky”

I’m from a muslim household

I’m from kenya and somalia, sweet plantains and rice

From my grandmother who would take out our baby teeth and feed us ice cream after

I’m from a rich culture and amazing food.
