Hurricane Maria
Maria, you’re a time machine
You were in my present
You took me to the past
And you taught me to think on the future
In my tropical island
I have never seen such destruction
I was afraid I would not have any food
That the power would take long to come back
But it was my family that worried me the most.
When will I see them again?
Was all I could think about in that moment.
We all needed a way to kill time,
But time was already dead.
It died as we waited in the long lines at the gasoline station
It died as we waited for the supermarkets to open
It died as we waited for the power to come back
It died as we celebrated new years in absolute darkness
We enjoyed ourselves despite the chaos
And appreciated the little things we had
