Hunger, I'd Curse no one With It

I speak of things I’ve witnessed and experienced

There are tragedies and disasters

Some are natural, and others are man-made

Then there are outbreaks of all manner of diseases

Most of which could have been prevented

But then there are civil unrests and wars

Most times due to poor leadership and bad governance

However, in all of this there lies a common denominator

Spelt- H-U-N-G-E-R and pronounced –hun guh!

Think of that child so hungry he can’t even dream about food

So bloated and emaciated he looks older than his age

Well, that picture sits etched on a mantelpiece in my memory

While hunger is something I don’t have to endure anymore

It is definitely not something I ever want to wish on anyone!!!

Annette M Velasquez

Your poem carries much power... it is honest and skillfully written. The images are sharp and haunting.

I can tell you @Annette M Velsaquez: the times described were inded harsh times; and the sad thing is that having lived through such an experience you never want to even imagine it anymore.
