Human Nature
Location
even within nature we are confined
in chains
from the depths we crawled
toward the sun
into the trees
wiping sweat from our brows
liberty
and freedom we found
now we climb mountains
and breathe in
what we are guaranteed
but we spit out the air
that surrounds us
onto each other's tongues
and yell
like red-skinned men
who forgot what they wanted
for men to walk free
is for a demon to hold the chair
set beneath your feet
(your neck is violet)
(your toes sweat)
and you wait
with your eyes closed tight
and you hide
from the demon
smiling
at your feet
it does not kick the chair
because the truth remains
there doesn't have to be demons
for there to be evil
just humans
with remarkable greed
always remember
that we escaped bondage
took a stand
fought
on the basis of liberty
now we dance in the trees
and grin
at the sun
as it kisses the horizon
before we grow cold
and resort
to the greed
that laughs in our veins
even within nature we are confined
in chains
bruising ourselves
dancing
to the vulgar beat of man
and blaming demons
that prevail in our minds
(your neck is violet)
(your toes sweat)
and you kick the chair
set beneath your feet
then you fall
into a necklace
of rope
braided by men
we blame demons
and fire
for the evils around us
but when you finally decide
to open your eyes
you look down
and See
the demon holding the chair
then you cry
as you see yourself
the red-skinned man
yelling
choking
blue in the face and dead
