Hum of Hurt

Do you ever have those days where your blood rots in your veins,

your stomach sinks and your skin itches, your bones burn into dust.

Yeah, you could take the drugs to make it fine,

needles of morphine, pills of codeine, but I dare you,

I dare you to wake up and run, I dare you to wake up and not hurt.

Because it's just a constant burn in your bones,

it's just a constant sound in your soul,

it's just a constant weight in your world,

it's just a constant hum of hurt.

These fractured bones are not to be ignored because

who's ever been whole, who's ever stood tall?

I refuse to believe that the best of us remain unbroken.

So take, take, take your pride, raise it high,

Fake, fake, fake your smile, keep it bright.

Play, play, play the game, you best win fast.

I could sleep for years but every time I try,

it turns to chaos like closing my eyes opens the floodgates.

Well, who the fuck knew there was enough in me to flood?

Feigning sleep because if I don't I’m proving panic.

Ohohohoh, can't have that! Don't incite a riot with the masses,

‘cause they'll take me back even if I've got their back.

These fractured bones are not to be ignored because

who's ever been whole, who's ever stood tall?

I refuse to believe that the best of us remain unbroken.

Do you ever have those days where your brain rebels in your head,

your heart hurts and your eyes cross, your hands shake your will?

Yeah, you could take the drugs to make it fine,

needles of morphine, pills of codeine, but I dare you,

I dare you to wake up and run, I dare you to wake up and not hurt.

Because it's just a constant burn in your bones,

it's just a constant sound in your soul,

it's just a constant weight in your world,

it's just a

constant, constant, constant, constant

hum of hurt.
