How I Fight You
And though I have given you all of my heart,
And though to protect you I offer my life,
I still fight so harshly to hold us apart,
To keep you from knowing the scale of my strife.
Though strongly, persistent, you try to unveil,
With all of your kindness and counsel and care,
That sickness within me that still might prevail,
The battle between us will never be fair.
For long before ever you held my heart’s key,
I turned all my jaggeder edges within,
And marshaled my armies to march against me,
And won before you had the chance to begin.
You mended my life with your word and your kiss,
But you cannot save me from this.
