Houses and Home

In one brief moment,

One fleeting spell,

I spoke too quickly

To do me well

My words, so hollow,

Then held weight

And thrust upon me

A heavier fate

My beloved Houses and Home

Upon Capital Hill

Has cast me in a shadow

No light can fill

And my Guardian, my Keeper

Sees me not

For I am nothing but of

Common lot

And they, his Protectors,

Make me guilty

Of a crime spoken out

So ever weakly

My beloved Houses and Home,

I shall never see thee

My shining Beacons and Statues,

We shall never meet

My Starry Night and Stripes

Was never so empty
