House of Cards

Oh, what a tangled web we weave

When first we practice to deceive!

Telling lies and twisting truth

Is—well, my darling—quite uncouth.

A whisper here, a tale retold,

A secret spun, a lie grows bold.

But like the house of cards you stack,

One breath of truth may bring it back.

The smallest crack, the faintest doubt,

And all your walls come tumbling out.

For what was built on frail disguise

Will crumble ‘neath unblinking eyes.

So mind the tales you weave, my dear,

For webs dissolve when truth is near.

Deceit’s embrace may feel divine,

But darling—truth will always shine.

And down will come your house of cards—

A wreck of lies in shattered shards.
