Hope is a deadly affliction

I always hoped you would come back to me
Make you understand that I loved you
But I understand now that you never could
You had too much to lose
And I had hoped to gain something in my meaningless
Life
But I will go on wanting
Praying
And hoping that someone will love me
And want me
And need me
Like I need them
But hope is the deadliest drug
It promises happiness and warmth
And peaks at making you believe you have a purpose
In someone's life
And crashes leaving you with nothing and worthlessness
