history lesson on music

I am not a poet

I don't do poetry

But I can sing it

I may not recite the word write on the paper

But I can make my song to it surely.

I may not the the lead vocalist

Or the first seat in my section but

I can become forte when I want to be

I choose to be piano

I rather listen

You may remember when

Nicki Minja said, "there's no friends in the game"

Or when

Linkin Park told you he's "tired of being what you want be to be"

When

Beyoncé said you could be either "sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare"

That "Pretty Hurts"

But she didn't fail to tell you "ya flawless"

Now I bet you don't know when

Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz sang about her tragic love,

Still calling her rejection "tall and tan and young and handsome"

Or when Frank Sinatra sang about his feelings

Telling you he's "got chu under his skin"

What about when Ella Fitzgerald's, supreme queen of jazz

Sang about her passion and love

"That music I hear, I get misty the moment you're near"

I may not be the better poet

I may not be lead

I may not be first chair

But I know where I wanna be

And that's all I really need
