This is the tale of Hermes

The messenger of the gods

His puckish sensibility

Often kept him at odds

His spirit is that of a traveler

Taking messages too and fro

With blazing speed and dexterity

From here to there he would go

Moving freely between worlds,

The ones of mortal and divine

His place amongst the gods

Would never fully align

His wandering soul kept searching

Trying to find a sign

In the Renaissance he was a muse

But that still was not his time

As lands developed one by one

And innovation kept growing

This son of zeus would find his way

With information flowing

We reach the 21st century,

Where you get your messages in an instant

The world is at your fingertips,

No matter how much you feel distant

This is the tale of the Internet

The messenger of all mortals

Hermes' soul lives evermore

Letting us use his portals
