Help Me Change

A girl sits on a bench,

A boy lies on the street,

A baby cries in a dumpster,

These children are everywhere.

They walk the streets of London

And crawl along the Hudson.

The boy, thrown out at six,

The girl, when she was two,

The baby, just left,

Never to be thought of again.

To us, they are invisible,

Shadows in the street.

Why don’t we hear them?

Why don’t we see them?

Why don’t we feel them?

Maybe we are deaf.

Maybe we are blind.

Maybe we are tired.

But maybe, just maybe,

We don’t care.

When will we care?

Will life always be like this?

Or will we change?

Please help me change.
